Getting ThereBy car: Frankstock is located just outside Burnham Thorpe from where it is clearly sign posted. To get there from London take the M11 to junction 9 Then take the A11, turning off onto the A1065 (signposted to Swaffam). Follow this to the A148 (signed to Kings Lynn) turning right imediately onto the B1355 and follow this to Burnham Thorpe. By train: Trains depart Kings Cross at 45 minutes past the hour and take just over 1 hour 30 minutes to Kings Lynn. From here it is a 30 minute taxi ride. 12:45 and 13:45 trains will have plenty of people heading to Frankstock for those wanting to share taxis. Trains back to London on Sunday leave at 26mins past every hour. You can use the google map above for directions as well. The closest pub to Frankstock is The Nelson in Burnham Thorpe. It is open midday to 10pm. Great beer garden if the weather is good. They also serve food. Directions: Turn left out of sight and follow the road round, then right and stay on that road (which runs the length of Burnham Thorpe) until you see the pub on your left and a recreation ground on your right. BEACHES There are a few: BURNHAM OVERY STAITHE- this is the closest to Frankstock but involves a (beautiful) walk and maybe some wading to get to the sea. Directions: Turn left out of the site (at the end of the drive) and go straight over a crossroads will you come to a T junction and can see the sea. Turn left here and first right , then park up and ask anyone how to get to Scolt Head, Gun Hill OR- if you just want a quick swim ask for Dead Man’s Hole. Pub: The Hero HOLKHAM- This is probably the best beach in Norfolk. Directions: Turn right out of the sight and right at the first major junction you come to. Then stay on the coast road and follow signs to Holkham. Pub: The Victoria FOOD BURNHAM MARKET has lots of shops, some normal, others a little OTT. Directions: Turn left out of sight and follow the road round, then right and stay on that road (which runs the length of Burnham Thorpe) until you get to signs to Burnham Market. It is just a couple of miles. Pub: The Hoste Arms. Probably the naffest pub in England but the food is good and the garden is nice. WELLS-NEXT-THE-SEA: Strangest place on earth. Great if you want fish and chips, a fry up, amusement arcades or just want to go and look at oversized holiday makers. Directions: Turn right out of the sight and right at the first major junction you come to. Then stay on the coast road and follow signs to Wells. |
